Midweek Message ~ February 5th, 2020
The writer of Proverbs (Solomon) said in Proverbs 4:23: “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” The Bible says our heart represents our spiritual being as opposed to our head which is the source of our knowledge. God lets us choose the spiritual condition of our heart. We can choose to have a hard heart living life our way or we can choose a soft heart, living life God’s way.
Paul told the church in Ephesus that they were separated from God because their hearts were hard (Ephesians 4:17-18. What does a person with a hard heart look like? We think of someone with a hard heart as someone who is cold, rigid, set in their ways and someone who does not want to change.
Matthew 12:35 describes person with a good heart this way, “A good person produces good things which are stored up in a good heart. God’s desire is for all of us to have a good heart, a soft heart that seeks to follow Him. Ezekiel writes in 36:26-27 that God was ready to give the Israelites a new heart and a new spirit. He said, “I will take out your stony, hard heart and give you a responsive, tender heart.”
When our heart is right with God, our spirit and our soul is right with God. We determine the course of our lives by choosing a hard heart or a soft, tender heart. God bless you all, see you Sunday and remember to “Keep Spurring each other on to love and good works.”
