MIDWEEK MESSAGE ~ April 6, 2022

Red Steagall wrote a poem called, “The fence that Me and Shorty Build.”  It’s a good one. It’s about a young cowboy who hires on at a ranch and is put on the fence crew.  He hired on to ride horses and punch cows, not build fence.  One day he was digging post holes and when he would hit a rock, he just moved over and dug the hole. You can imagine how crooked the fence was.

Shorty the fence crew boss comes up to the young cowboy and tells him, “let’s find a tree and talk.” Shorty is full of common sense and wisdom so he asked the young cowboy to think about what the ranch boss would say when he comes riding through and sees this fence.  He tells the young man, “tomorrow we’ll get up and come back out here and re-dig the holes.  We’ll make the fence straight.”

Sometimes we think we know better than God how we are to live our lives.  We compromise and move the boundaries and our lives get crooked.  We need God to help us straighten out our lives.

Proverbs 4:10-11 says, “My child listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long good life.  I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths.”

Keep Spurring,

Louis
