The Bible reminds us over and over that God is the God of Hope in a troubled world. Jesus said in this world we would have trouble, but He has overcome the world and we can too if we will follow Him. [John 16: 33]
Paul wrote in Romans 8:28 that God can cause everything to work for the good for those of us who love Him and who will follow His purpose for our lives. When we are honest with ourselves, we will admit that we have flaws and sin in our lives and sometimes we are not very good Christ followers. The good news is God forgives when we are honest with Him and He will help us change.
In Psalms 139:1 David gives us an example of how we can ask God for help. He says, “O Lord, you have examined my heart and you know everything about me.” We can begin by acknowledging that God knows us inside and out. Then in verse 23, David says, “Search me O God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me down the right path of life.”
As we enter a new year why don’t we promise to be honest with ourselves and with God. Let’s ask God to show us the things we need to let go of and change so that our lives become more and more a reflection of His. David’s prayer can be our prayer. “Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me.”
God bless you in the coming year and “Keep Spurring.”
