Midweek Message ~ January 6th, 2021

As we read the New Testament part of the Bible,  have you ever noticed what motivated people to follow Jesus?   Some were fascinated by the words He spoke. A few followed because they believed He was the Messiah, the Son of God.  Some were trying to hear Him say something that they could use against Him.  Then in John 6 I saw another reason some followed.  Verse 2 says, “A huge crowd followed because they saw His  miraculous signs as He healed the sick.”  We know this story.  It’s the time He fed 5000 with just five little loaves of bread and two fish that a young boy had brought with him.

In this story there were some of those who wanted and needed to be healed,  but most may have just been fascinated by His power to do miraculous things and they wanted Him to do more.

As I read this story, I wondered why do people today follow Jesus?   Is it because we want Him to do something for us or do we follow because we believe Jesus is the source of forgiveness for our failures and the source of real peace for our lives.  Jesus ask  nothing from us other than to follow Him.  Maybe our response  should be to follow Him without asking for anything in return.

God bless you in the new year and “Keep Spurring.”
